Strattera (Atomoxetine) 10mg belongs to a family of medications known as selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. It is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It helps to increase attention and decrease restlessness and impulsiveness in children and adults.

General information

Strattera (Atomoxetine) 10mg is an alternative to the stimulant ADHD medications most commonly used to treat symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD) in children ages 6-12, adolescents, and adults. It is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) medicine. Strattera is a non-stimulant; it is not considered a controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). It has not been studied in children under the age of 6.

Strattera (Atomoxetine) 10mg was the first and only non-stimulant medication approved for ADHD treatment in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It was also the first non-stimulant medication to be approved for treating adults with ADHD.

Other measures (e.g., psychological, educational, and social therapies) are used along with atomoxetine as part of an overall treatment program for ADHD. An improvement in ADHD symptoms generally occurs within 1 to 4 weeks of starting Atomoxetine.

What is the Typical Dosage for Strattera (Atomoxetine) ?

The dose of atomoxetine depends on the needs of the person taking the medication. The daily dose of atomoxetine is based on body weight and is taken once daily or twice daily. The dose is started low and increased gradually. Doses above 100 mg daily are not recommended. Atomoxetine may be taken with or without food. Swallow the capsules whole, and do not open the capsules.

Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
