Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg

General information

Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg is a medication used for anesthesia, procedural sedation, trouble sleeping, and severe agitation. Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg works by inducing sleepiness, decreasing anxiety, and causing a loss of ability to create new memories.
It is also useful for the treatment of seizures. Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg is indicated for the short term treatment of moderately severe insomnia in people who have not reacted adequately to other hypnotics, and who have persistent trouble in falling asleep. Because of midazolam's extremely short duration, it is not used for people who have trouble staying asleep through the night; moderate- to long-acting benzodiazepines, such as temazepam, nitrazepam, flunitrazepam, and lormetazepam, are used for those purposes.

Possible side effect

If any of the following side effects occur while taking Flormidal, check with your doctor or nurse immediately:

Less common:

• Anxiety;
• chest pain or discomfort;
• choking;
• confusion;
• difficult or troubled breathing;
• drowsiness;
• dry mouth;
• fast heartbeat;
• hyperventilation;
• irregular heartbeats;
• irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing;
• irritability;
• lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting;
• nausea;
• trouble sleeping;
• unable to speak
• unusual tirednessv weakness;
• wheezing;
• Attack, assault, or force;
• changes in patterns and rhythms of speech;
• feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings;
• headache;
• lack or loss of self-control;
• loss of balance;
• mood swings;
• noisy breathing;
• not breathing;
• restlessness;
• shakiness and unsteady walk;
• sleepiness;
• slow to respond;
• slurred speech;
• trouble in speaking;
• unconsciousness;
• unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination;

If any of the following symptoms of overdose occur while taking Flormidal, get emergency help immediately:

• difficulty with coordination;
• loss of consciousness;
• sleepiness or unusual drowsiness;

Minor Side Effects:
Some of the side effects that can occur with Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you about ways to reduce or prevent some of these side effects. If any of the following side effects continue, are bothersome or if you have any questions about them, check with your health care professional:

More common: Vomiting;

Less common: Rash;
Rare: Blurred vision, double vision, gagging, hiccups, seeing double, watering of mouth and drooling;

Drug Interactions

Protease inhibitors, nefazodone, sertraline, grapefruit, fluoxetine, erythromycin, diltiazem, clarithromycin inhibit the metabolism of midazolam, leading to a prolonged action. St John's wort, rifapentine, rifampin, rifabutin, phenytoin enhance the metabolism of midazolam leading to a reduced action. Sedating antidepressants, antiepileptic drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin and carbamazepine, sedative antihistamines, opioids, antipsychotics and alcohol enhance the sedative effects of midazolam. Midazolam is metabolized almost completely by cytochrome P450-3A4. Atorvastatin administration along with midazolam results in a reduced elimination rate of Midazolam.

Precautions

• Concomitant use with opioids may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma.
• Reserve concomitant prescribing of these drugs for use in patients for whom alternative treatment options are inadequate.
• Limit dosages and durations to the minimum required.
• Follow patients for signs/symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation.

Storage

Store Flormidal (Midazolam) 15mg at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store the drugs in the bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
